What can a team customize on a cheer bow?

Six things, and a coach should settle all six before the order goes in:
| Option | What it means | Where you’ll see it | Our light-up bow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team colors | The ribbon color, or two colors layered | Superior Cheer & Dance’s two-layer bow stacks a 3-inch and a 2¼-inch ribbon in two colors | White bow; one button sets the light to your team color |
| Logo | A mascot or school mark on the bow | Varsity reps offer competition bows with a school’s custom logo | Ask us before you order |
| Names or grad year | Personalized senior and captain bows | Varsity personalizes senior bows with the athlete’s name or graduation year | Ask us before you order |
| Finish | Glitter, rhinestones or a sublimated print | Omni Cheer lists rhinestone and sublimated bows | The light is the finish |
| Tails | Triangle-cut or straight-cut | Set by each maker | Straight-cut, or triangle-cut on request |
| Size | 6, 7 or 8 inches wide | Superior Cheer & Dance sells all three; 7 inches is its most popular | About 6.1 by 5.9 inches |

A custom order is a set of decisions. Make them once, with the athletic director or the booster president, and the squad gets bows that match from the first game to the last.
Straight-cut or triangle-cut tails?

Both work, and on our light-up bow it is a choice you make with the order. Tails come straight-cut, or we can cut them into classic triangle cheer-bow tails for your team.
- Triangle-cut tails are the classic cheer-bow look: a V notched into each tail. Bow makers aim for the fork about 1.5 inches up the tail (source: Be Incredibow by Kaely: cheer bow basics).
- Straight-cut tails are clean and modern, and they are how our sample bows are shown.
- Keep every bow the same. One cut for the whole squad, written on the order.
Want the longer tails of a 7-inch pony bow? DM us to join the list for the long-tail version. For tail lengths and bow sizes side by side, see the cheer bow size chart.
Team colors without a new custom order every season

Color is where custom bow orders multiply. Varsity’s suggested rotation is a solid 3-inch sideline bow for camp and football, a gold glitter bow for childhood cancer awareness in September, a pink bow for October games and a sparkle bow for competition (source: Varsity: Celebrate Bow-vember). That is four bows per athlete, and every new color is another order to match.
A light-up bow changes the math. It is white with the lights off, and one button sets the light: your school color for game night, white for a whiteout, another color in its cycle for a theme night. One bow covers many nights. See cheer bow colors for choosing colors that read at night, and glow bows for night games for glow nights.
How do you keep custom bows matched across a squad?
- One maker, one order. Split orders are how a squad ends up with two shades of the same red.
- Check the color under the lights you perform in, not on a screen.
- Spares from the same order: two of every style in the coach’s bag.
- Label every bow with the athlete’s name; matching bows look identical by design.
- Reorder from the same maker, quoting the original order, when a bow is lost midseason.
- For light-up bows: agree one color before warm-ups and have the captain check the line, bow by bow.
For the full team order, from how many bows each athlete needs to who pays, see cheer bows for teams. For senior bows, see senior cheer bows.
What custom cheer bows cost a program
Published fee schedules show how programs bill bows, custom or not:
| Program | Bow line | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Juab High School, Utah, 2025–26 | Three sets of bows at $45, inside the cheer clothing and gear fee | Juab High School 2025–26 athletics fee schedule |
| Cheer Infinity Allstars, 2026–27 | Uniform and bow billed together at $250; a new hair piece is $25 for athletes who already have the uniform | Cheer Infinity Allstars 2026–27 handbook |
| Showtime Elite Atlanta, 2024–25 | Bows listed with uniform, shoes, warm-up and backpack as not included in tuition | Showtime Elite Atlanta 2024–25 handbook |
The pattern to copy: bill the athlete’s own bow with the uniform, up front, at one price for every family. Put program-owned sets, such as spares, senior gifts and a light-up set the program keeps, on the booster or program budget. For our light-up bows, see the light-up cheer bows page for current packs and team pricing.
When is a light-up bow the better custom order?
| Moment | Custom ribbon bow | Light-up bow |
|---|---|---|
| Practice and camp | Yes | No need |
| Daytime games | Yes | Optional |
| Competition day, on the mat and at awards | The classic look | The whole team glowing in one color |
| Night football and lights-out openers | Fades in shadow | Makes its own light |
| Senior night and banquets | Names and grad years | The walk-out and the photo in a dim room |
| Theme and cause nights | A new bow per theme | One click to the night’s color, if it is in the bow’s cycle |
A sensible plan is both: a custom ribbon bow for the daytime look, and a light-up set for the nights that matter. See light-up competition cheer bows for the mat. Competition rules vary by event, so check with your event producer before using anything lit in a judged routine.

Frequently asked questions
What can you customize on a cheer bow?
Color, size, finish (glitter, rhinestones or prints), tails, and on many ribbon bows a logo, name or graduation year. Our light-up bows set to your team color with a button, with straight-cut or triangle-cut tails.
Are custom cheer bows worth it?
When the bow is part of the program’s look for several seasons, yes. For nights that need light, one light-up bow covers several colors.
Can you get personalized cheer bows with names?
Many ribbon bow makers personalize senior bows with names or graduation years. For our light-up bows, ask us before you order.
Do light-up cheer bows come in team colors?
They are white with the lights off, and the button cycles the light through the colors, so every athlete sets the bow to your team color. We can send you a video of the colors first.
Can we get triangle tails on light-up bows?
Yes. Tails come straight-cut, or we can cut them into classic triangle cheer-bow tails for your team.
How do we order custom bows for the whole squad?
See the light-up cheer bows product page for current pack sizes and team pricing, then send us your athlete count, colors, tail cut and date.
