What do coaches and booster clubs order for seniors?

Senior night is the one game where a squad buys for a few athletes instead of the whole team. Varsity notes that almost every squad honours its seniors at an end-of-year banquet or on senior night, and suggests personalising senior bows with the athlete’s name or graduation year as a keepsake (source: Varsity Spirit: Celebrate Bow-vember). At Prattville High School, the cheer booster club’s minutes record that senior cheerleaders would be given a sash and flowers on senior night (source: Prattville High School Megaphone Booster Club minutes).
| Senior gift | What it is | Worn or kept |
|---|---|---|
| Senior bow | A ribbon bow with “Senior”, the class year or the athlete’s name | Worn on the night, kept after |
| Senior sash | Worn over the uniform for the walk | Worn for the walk and the photos |
| Flowers | Handed over during the walk | Kept for the day |
| Light-up bow and poms | Glow in the squad’s colour for a lights-down walk | Worn on the night, kept after |
| Framed photo or poster | The senior or the squad, printed | Kept |
One supplier’s senior bow is white grosgrain with “Senior” and the year in glitter, with the base and glitter colours picked by the buyer (source: Superior Cheer & Dance: senior bow). That is the keepsake. The rest of this guide is about how to pay for it and how to give the seniors a moment worth keeping it for.
Who pays for senior bows and senior night gifts?
Usually three budgets share it: the coach decides what the seniors get, the booster club contributes, and the squad budget or the families cover the rest.
| Who | What they cover | A real example |
|---|---|---|
| Coach | Chooses the gift and the moment | One booster club’s minutes leave senior night recognition to each coach, with the booster club contributing or giving a gift (source: Beresford Booster Club minutes) |
| Booster club | A set amount per senior | One booster club gives up to $10 per senior, per sport, toward senior flowers or a gift, and up to $40 toward senior banners (source: Hoosic Valley Booster Club) |
| Squad budget | Anything ordered for the whole team | A squad order that includes the seniors’ gifts |
| Families | Personal extras | Flowers, posters, a second keepsake |
Check your own club’s rules before you plan. A fixed per-senior amount covers flowers or a ribbon bow, not a set of light-up gear, so plan light-up bows with the squad budget and let the booster club fund the seniors’ share as their gift. See the light-up cheer bows page for current pack sizes and team pricing.
Should the senior bow be the one they wear or the one they keep?

It can be both, but decide which job matters more:
- The keepsake bow carries the name or class year. It goes on a shelf after the season, so the personalisation matters more than how it performs.
- The bow they wear on the night has to match the squad, sit high at the crown and show in photos from the stands.
- The light-up bow is for the moment the lights go down. Ours are white cheer bows with built-in LEDs. Click the button on the bow to change the light colour, or let it cycle through the colours, and set every bow to the same colour so the squad glows together.
A ribbon senior bow with the name and year, and a light-up bow for the walk, do different jobs, and a squad can give both: the ribbon bow carries the name, the light-up bow carries the moment. See the light-up cheer bows page for current pack sizes and team pricing.
How do you stage a lights-down senior walk?
- Ask the venue early whether the lights can dim for the walk: the stands and the track at a stadium while the field stays lit, or the house lights in a gym.
- Script the names. Each senior, their years on the squad and their plans after school, written down for the announcer in walking order.
- Set the bows before the walk. Each bow changes colour with the button on the bow, so click every bow to the senior colour in the locker room, not on the track.
- The underclassmen form a tunnel with lit poms; the captain switches every pom to the senior colour together with the pom remote.
- Each senior walks through with family, bow glowing at the crown.
- Hand over the gift at the end of the tunnel: flowers, the keepsake bow, the poms.
- Bring the lights back up for the squad photo, seniors at the front.
Keep the walk to one song if you can, so the game isn’t held up and the stands stay with it. For the full night — the walk-out, the senior routine and the run of show — see cheer senior night ideas.

Light-Up LED Pom Poms
Metallic streamers with LEDs built into the pom, a rechargeable pack, and one remote that changes the whole team’s color at once.
$145 USD per pair
What should seniors wear for the walk?
The uniform, the sash and the bow, worn so all three show in the photos:
- The bow high at the crown. A cheer bow sits on top of a high ponytail, over the elastic, with the tails hanging down over the ponytail. Cheerleading Company’s placement guide warns that low placement can make the bow disappear during a performance (source: Cheerleading Company: how to put a cheer bow in).
- The sash on before the walk, checked so it lies flat.
- Flowers held low, so the photo shows the face, the bow and the sash.
- Poms in both hands for the tunnel and the photo, lit in the squad’s colour.
A lit bow at the crown and lit poms in both hands are what the families’ phones pick up in a dim stadium. For a step-by-step on putting a bow in, see making cheer bows vs ordering them.
How many bows and poms should the order include?
Order bows for the whole squad, so every head in the tunnel glows, not just the seniors’. See the light-up cheer bows page for current pack sizes and team pricing. Poms are at our team rate of $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.
| Squad | Seniors | Light-up bow packs | Light-up poms (pairs) | Poms at the team rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Squad of 12 | 4 | See the product page | 12 | $1,440 |
| Squad of 16 | 5 | See the product page | 16 | $1,920 |
| Squad of 20 | 6 | See the product page | 20 | $2,400 |
| Cheer and dance together, 28 | 8 | See the product page | 28 | $3,360 |
The seniors keep theirs as the gift; the underclassmen’s bows and poms carry on to next season. Add spares for an alternate or a new athlete mid-season.
When should you order senior bows?
Work back from the date. Senior night is often one of the last home games, and both personalised ribbon bows and light-up bows need the names, colours and quantities settled first.
| When | What to lock in |
|---|---|
| Start of the season | Coach and booster club agree the senior gift and who pays |
| Early season | Collect names, class years and colours; check pricing and order |
| Two weeks out | Script the announcements; agree the lights cue with the venue |
| Game week | Check every bow; charge the poms |
| Senior night | Bows on at the crown and set to one colour, poms set to match, gifts at the end of the tunnel |
Send us your senior night date when you get in touch and we will tell you plainly what fits.
Who runs what on the day?
| Role | Job |
|---|---|
| Head coach | Chooses the gift; runs the walk and the lights cue |
| Booster club | Funds the seniors’ share; orders the flowers and sashes |
| Captains | Set every bow to one colour; run the tunnel and the pom remote |
| Announcer | Reads the senior scripts in order |
| Families | At the start of the tunnel on time |
| Parent volunteer | Photos of each senior and the squad |
Give the announcer the names in writing, in walking order, and give the captains a copy.
How do you order senior bows?
See the light-up cheer bows page for current pack sizes and team pricing. Each light-up bow is about 15.5 by 15 cm (6.1 by 5.9 inches) and about 60 g (2.1 oz). Tails come straight-cut, or we can cut them into classic triangle cheer-bow tails for your team.
For names, grad years and tail options, see custom cheer bows; for sizes, the cheer bow size chart.
Email or DM us with the squad size, the number of seniors, your school colours and the senior night date. We make our light-up products ourselves and will tell you plainly what fits your date. See team orders for how a group order works.
