Neon Cowboys designs and makes custom light-up merch for tours, artist webstores, VIP packages, festivals, brand activations and gifting suites. We have made Kacey Musgraves’ light-up tour merch for years, created branded merch and an activation at Stagecoach with AEG and Live Nation, and built bespoke light-up pieces for Topo Chico and light-up pillows for Cash App.

Most tour merch is printed: a tee, a hoodie, a tote. Fans buy it and it disappears in every photo taken in a dark venue. Light-up merch is the piece that shows up in those photos, gets worn to the next show and gets kept. The Kacey Musgraves x Neon Cowboys collab hats ran out at venue after venue and now resell for hundreds of dollars on eBay and Poshmark.

How does a custom light-up merch run work?
- Brief. Send the artist or brand, the look (album art, logo, colors), the piece you have in mind, your quantity, your budget and your dates.
- Design. We design the piece around that look and the way the light should behave: steady, color-changing or pulsing to sound.
- Sample. You hold a sample, switch it on in a dark room and sign off on it.
- Production. We make the run to the approved sample.
- Delivery. Tell us where it needs to go: the tour, your warehouse or the venue.
We don’t publish lead times, because they depend on the piece and the quantity. Send your dates with the brief and we will tell you plainly what fits. The full process, from brief to production
Minimums and budgets
Minimums are set per project. The lower the unit cost a piece is built to, the higher the quantity it needs; a premium piece can run in a smaller quantity at a higher unit cost. Custom light-up cowboy hats start at 500 units; our run for Kacey Musgraves’ tour was 1,000. Our project form’s budget options start at $5,000 to $10,000, and the form also offers $30,000 to $50,000 and $100,000 and up.
Is light-up merch worth it over printed merch?
U.S. promotional products sales reached $26.78 billion in 2024 (PPAI, Feb. 2025), and the average promotional product is kept for about eight months (ASI Global Ad Impressions Study, 2016). Most of that money goes to printed pieces. Here is how they compare with a light-up piece:
| Piece | In a dark venue | After the show |
|---|---|---|
| Printed tee or tote | Disappears in photos | Worn or stored with every other tee |
| Glow stick | Glows that night | Fades and gets thrown away |
| Neon Cowboys light-up piece | Shows up in every phone photo | Worn to the next show and kept; the Kacey collab hats resell for hundreds of dollars |

- Proven on tour. Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and our light-up merch has been part of her tours since that era (MCA Nashville, Aug. 2019).
- Black- and Chinese American woman-owned, and independent.
