Light-Up LED Pom Poms
Metallic streamers with LEDs built into the pom, a rechargeable pack, and one remote that changes the whole team’s color at once.
$145 USD per pair
For dancers training for pro dance and pro cheer auditions: a pair of our LED pom poms gives you working 7 oz poms to drill pom combos at home, with metallic streamers that work as regular poms in daylight and LEDs for night practice and showcases. See the product page for the current price of a pair.
What should a dancer buy and train before NBA dance team auditions?

Train every style the team performs, and own a pair of poms. Pom is part of the job at some pro teams, and it gets judged. The Denver Nuggets Dancers say they perform pom, hip-hop, jazz and character routines, and that each style is evaluated during the audition process (source: Denver Nuggets Dancers auditions). On the pro football side, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders’ prep intensive includes a field-style pom combo plus kick line and precision training (source: Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders audition FAQ).
That is why a practice pair belongs in your bag. Ours are built as working poms first:
- About 7 oz per pom, so you train the arm endurance a full combo takes.
- Full metallic streamers that work as a regular pom in daylight, at the studio or in the yard.
- LEDs built into the pom, rechargeable, 3 to 4 hours per charge, for night practice, showcases and your own content.
At the audition itself, use the material and props the team posts. The pair is for the hundreds of reps before it.
How much do pro audition prep classes cost?
Prep classes are where you learn a team’s style before you are judged on it. Here is what four teams posted for the 2026 cycle on their own audition pages:
| Team | Prep offered | Price | Audition age and eligibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Utah Jazz Dancers | Prep classes April 2 and 7, 2026, 5 to 7 p.m., space limited | $25 a class, cash at the door | Applicants 18 by July 1, 2026 who are high school graduates |
| Denver Nuggets Dancers | 11 prep classes in June and July 2026, each with different choreography, plus two audition workshops with a mock audition | $25 a class, down to $16 a class in bundles; workshops $65, capped at 20 | 18 by July 24, 2026, or 17 with parent or guardian permission |
| Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders | Fall Intensive Nov. 14, 2026 and Winter Workshop Dec. 5, 2026, plus prep-training workshops and dance classes before auditions | Prep-training workshop $30; dance classes $25 each, or five for $110 | 18 and up |
| Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders | Prep classes in the months before auditions, plus a one- or two-day prep intensive with mock auditions | No fee to audition; class times and places at registration | 18 by the preliminary audition |
Prep classes are optional at the Chiefs and the Dolphins, and both teams call them your best guide to the team’s style (sources: Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders auditions, Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders audition FAQ). Budget for several, and book early: the Nuggets cap each workshop at 20 dancers.
Drilling a pom combo at home

A pom combo shows what one class cannot teach: clean levels, sharp stops and arms that stay locked through the last eight-count. Build it in short daily blocks with the pair in your hands.
- Motions on counts. High V, low V, T, broken T, daggers and punches, eight counts each, holding every hit for a full count.
- Levels. Check in the mirror that both poms stop at the same height on every hit.
- Endurance. Run your full combo three times without dropping your arms between runs. With 7 oz in each hand, the third run shows where you tire.
- Kicks with poms. Kick line work with poms held at the hips.
- Film yourself. Set the poms to one color in a dim room and film from the front. Lit poms make every late hit obvious on playback.
Twenty focused minutes a day beats one long weekend session, and the pair goes with you to every prep class that asks you to bring poms.
Video rounds, solos and interviews
Several teams now start on video. The Utah Jazz ran a virtual first round for the 2026–27 team, with technique combos, tricks and a one-minute solo due April 22, then in-person auditions by invitation May 11 to 15 (source: Utah Jazz Dancers auditions). The Chiefs ran preliminaries and semifinals by video and virtual interview, with in-person finals May 1 to 3, 2026 (source: Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders auditions).
Follow each team’s video instructions exactly: the props, the framing, the music and the attire it lists. Use your practice footage to fix your lines before you film the real submission.
Interviews count too. The Jazz list business professional attire for interviews, and the Nuggets ask dancers to bring an appropriate jacket or cover-up for semifinal interviews.
What to wear and bring to a pro audition
- Two-piece dance attire. The Dolphins suggest a dance or athletic bra top with hot pants or shorts, skin-tone non-shimmer tights and dance or cheer shoes. The Chiefs say most candidates wear a bra top with dance shorts, and no biker shorts or bikini-style bottoms.
- Non-marking shoes. The Jazz and the Nuggets both ask for them.
- Paperwork. The Nuggets want an 8x10 headshot (you do not get it back), a dance resume, the registration form and the liability waiver at check-in.
- Food and water. The Nuggets tell dancers to bring water and snacks, because no one leaves for food once auditions begin.
Leave your own props at home unless the team asks for them. Bring the team’s checklist, printed, and tick it off the night before.
A 12-week prep plan
| When | What to lock in |
|---|---|
| 12 weeks out | Pick your teams, join their mailing lists and book prep classes |
| 10 weeks out | Daily motion and level drills with your practice pair, plus a weekly technique class |
| 8 weeks out | Learn one full pom combo and one jazz combo; film and review every week |
| 6 weeks out | Prep classes and workshops; build your one-minute solo |
| 4 weeks out | Headshot, dance resume and interview answers; run mock interviews |
| 2 weeks out | Full run-throughs in audition attire; ease off the endurance work |
| Audition week | Rest, hydrate and pack the team’s checklist |
Plan around each team’s calendar, not a generic one. Pro teams post their own dates, and they move from year to year.
If you coach a team as well
If you also coach a high school, college or studio team, the same poms come in a team order: $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs, made to order in your team colors, with one remote that changes the whole team’s color together.
| Group | Pairs | Cost at the team rate |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or small team | 10 | $1,200 |
| High school line | 20 | $2,400 |
| College or large dance team | 30 | $3,600 |

Frequently asked questions
Do NBA dance team auditions include pom?
Some do. The Denver Nuggets Dancers say they perform pom, hip-hop, jazz and character routines and evaluate each style during auditions. Check each team’s own audition page.
How much do pro dance team prep classes cost?
For 2026, the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets charged $25 a class, and the Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders charged $25 a dance class or five for $110. Prices change every year.
How old do you have to be to audition for a pro dance team?
Usually 18. The Utah Jazz required 18 by July 1, 2026, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders 18 by the preliminary audition, and the Denver Nuggets 18, or 17 with parent or guardian permission.
Why practice with a 7 oz pom?
A full pom combo is an endurance test. Drilling with a working pom of real weight builds the arm strength that keeps your hits sharp through the last eight-count.
Can I use light-up poms in my audition video?
Follow the team’s video instructions exactly and use only the props it lists. Use your pair for practice footage and your own content.
Do your poms work as regular poms?
Yes. The streamers are full metallic, so they work as regular poms in daylight. The LEDs built into the pom light up when you want them to.
