For band directors and dance line coaches hosting auxiliary clinics: our LED pom poms put the line in light inside the band’s formation, every pair changing color together by one remote. The Purdue Golduster Dance Team ordered 24 pairs in September 2026. Team pricing is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

Which band dance lines run clinics, and what does the line need for the season?

Band dance line: eight dancers in black hold white LED pom poms in front of a marching band on a dark field

Band dance lines recruit through spring clinics, then perform at every home game beside the band, so the pom order is season equipment, not a one-night prop. At LSU, the Golden Girls, the oldest and most established danceline on campus, perform with the LSU Tiger Band at home football games, campus events and away games, and their clinics prepare auditionees in the line’s technique and style (source: LSU Golden Girls). Miami’s Hurricanette Dance Line, 15 to 20 dancers, calls its two pre-tryout clinics highly recommended (source: Frost Band of the Hour: Hurricanette auditions).

Once the line is chosen, it has to read next to a full marching band, at night, every week. That is the job our poms do.

Purdue Goldusters: 24 pairs on the field with the band

The Purdue Golduster Dance Team, the dance line of the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, ordered 24 pairs of our light-up pom poms in September 2026 and performed with them on the field. They chose white metallic streamers. At a night home football game the line held white inside the band’s formation, then switched through green, blue and purple together from one remote. White is a flexible base for a band line: it reads as a clean metallic pom under stadium lights and takes on any color when the LEDs are on. See the Purdue Goldusters case study.

For a director, the lesson is simple: the dance line becomes part of the drill picture. Write its color next to each formation, the way the band marks a music hit.

Dance line audition clinics at LSU and Miami

Program Clinic Who can attend What follows
LSU Golden Girls Feb. 28 and March 21, 2026, 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., Tiger Band Hall; advance registration required 8th grade through college; encouraged, not required, for auditionees Round 1: a solo video and a technique video; Round 2 in person in Baton Rouge on April 18
Miami Hurricanettes Two pre-tryout clinics, highly recommended Auditioners; returners re-audition every year Auditions April 11–12, 2026: a jazz routine, a pom routine and across-the-floor technique, in all-black attire

Both lines teach a pom routine as audition material, and LSU opens its clinics to eighth graders, so a clinic is also where a band program meets dancers years before they audition (sources: LSU Golden Girls, Frost Band of the Hour: Hurricanette auditions). The clinic is the recruiting window. The night game is what the recruits came to see.

What do marching band auxiliary clinics offer high school color guards and dance lines?

College band programs also run clinics for high school auxiliaries, which is where your line, guard and twirlers pick up college technique before band camp.

  • Carolina Spin, University of South Carolina: the Carolina Band’s color guard clinic ran June 10–11, 2026, for rising 9th to 12th graders. The $95 non-refundable fee covers instruction, a shirt and Friday lunch, and groups that register 10 or more students together get $10 off per student (source: University of South Carolina: Carolina Band summer clinics).
  • Michigan State University: its marching band auxiliary camp takes individuals, groups or entire auxiliary ensembles, from beginning to advanced, and covers flag technique, rifle and saber on request, routine design, field staging, choreography, dance and costuming (source: Michigan State University: marching band auxiliary camp).

A high school band director who sends the auxiliary as a group gets a matched line back. Match the equipment too: if the dance line carries poms at night games, one set on one remote keeps the line as uniform as the guard’s flags.

Stage the clinic finale as a recruiting picture

Band dance line clinic finale: eight dancers in maroon raise ice-blue LED pom poms in a dim rehearsal hall as attendees film

End your clinic the way the season looks. With the band hall or the practice field lights down, the current line performs one number with every pom lit, and the color changes on a drum hit. Prospects and their parents film it, and that clip carries your audition date further than a flyer.

  1. Pick one color cue and write it into the music, for example the downbeat after the drum break.
  2. One person owns the remote and stands with a clear line of sight to the whole line, not up in the press box.
  3. Run it once with the lights up so the clinic dancers see the motions, then once with them down.
  4. Close with the dates for video submissions and auditions.

For what to film and how to cut it, see dance team recruitment videos.

Season equipment for a line that performs every home game

  • LEDs built into the pom itself, not one light in the handle, so every pom reads as light from the upper rows.
  • Full metallic streamers that work as a regular pom at afternoon kickoffs and parades.
  • One remote changes the whole line’s color together: school colors, white inside a formation, a theme color on a special night.
  • 7 oz per pom, on rechargeable packs.
  • 3 to 4 hours per charge; white and rainbow drain faster, so charge every pair the night before and switch on for the moments that count.

For a pom unit that also covers basketball and baseball, see pom lines in marching bands.
