A college band dance line belongs to the marching band. The LSU Golden Girls have taken the field with the Tiger Marching Band since 1959, Purdue’s Golduster Dance Team was founded in 1980 and dances the sidelines and the halftime show with the “All-American” Marching Band, and the Ole Miss Rebelettes perform with the Pride of the South at halftime. Their season runs from pregame to bowl games, much of it at night, so the gear has to read under stadium lights and in the dark. Our light-up poms are $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

What do college dance lines wear?
The look is the line’s identity, and it changes rarely. The Golden Girls’ uniforms were redesigned in 2018 by former Golden Girl and designer Suzanne Perron St. Paul: “I knew I wanted a lot of gold, but I also knew the uniforms needed to stay white” (source: 225 Magazine). On game day a Golden Girl packs a sequined uniform and a cape (source: The Reveille). Theme nights add a second look: for one Purdue homecoming, the Goldusters performed in flapper costumes (source: Purdue News).
What that means for a coach: the uniform is a long-term design decision, and anything you add has to sit with it. Light-up poms add light without touching the uniform; they switch to the line’s colours by remote. Do college dance lines carry poms?
For some numbers. Purdue’s Goldusters list pom alongside hip-hop and jazz among the styles they perform (source: Purdue Bands), and Indiana’s RedSteppers dance jazz, pom and hip-hop (source: IU Marching Hundred). So a line needs matched poms for its pom numbers and empty hands for the rest, which is why poms have to be quick to pick up and set down on the sideline.
Purdue’s Golduster Dance Team ordered 24 pairs of our light-up poms in September 2026 and performed with them on the field with the band.

How are lines selected, and when should you order?
LSU holds Golden Girls auditions in March or April in two rounds, video then in person (source: LSU Golden Girls). Purdue runs a video round, then Audition Finals on campus (source: Purdue Bands). The Rebelettes use a recruitment process in place of an audition (source: Ole Miss Athletics). Whatever the method, the line is usually set in spring, which is when to take sizes and request quotes.
