For NBA and pro dance team directors building a game-night bandana number: our light-up bandanas glow solid, twinkle or flash in eight colors, so a 20-dancer line reads as one when the arena goes dark. Add LED fringe sequin jackets for the intro. Email “Team order” with your roster and game date for team pricing.

What does an NBA dance team need from a bandana routine?

Basketball dance team bandana routine: nine dancers in white light-up bandanas and silver sequin tops under a spotlight

Pro dance teams wear bandanas in some game-night routines. The look suits hip-hop and western numbers, it is simple, and every dancer can wear it. The problem is the arena: when the lights drop for a routine, a plain bandana disappears.

Our light-up bandana fixes that. It has LEDs built in, with solid, twinkle and flash settings, and it is light enough to wear through every kick and turn. On a pro line it does three jobs:

  • It matches the whole line. Twenty dancers in one color read as one shape from the top rows.
  • It reads fast. Pro routines are short, so the look has to land on the first count.
  • It adds to the uniform you have. No new costume and no fittings for the full roster.

Built for short timeouts and halftime

A game-night number has to fit the clock. Under NBA Rule No. 5, mandatory timeouts run 2:45 for local games and 3:15 for national games, any team timeout beyond the mandatory ones runs 1:15, and there are 15 minutes between halves (source: NBA Rule No. 5).

The routines inside those windows are short. In 2017, The New York Times reported that the Knicks City Dancers had moved from 50-second routines to 90-second numbers in 2014, and that the Brooklynettes did two routines a game, each one minute to 90 seconds long. Each team had 20 dancers (source: The New York Times via WRAL).

How a pro line wears the bandana

Pro lines tie it the same way on every dancer. Pick one style and drill it:

  • Neckerchief, point in front: the classic look for western and country theme nights.
  • Folded headband: for hip-hop numbers with big head and hair moves.
  • Tied at the thigh or upper arm: it moves with kicks and arm lines.

In the same report, the dancers measured their spacing on the court hours before the players showed up (source: The New York Times via WRAL). Add the bandana to that walk-through: tie it, switch it on and check the color under the arena lights and on the video board if your game-presentation team will show the number. Swap coin cells before the game, not during it, and keep the batteries with an adult. Solid mode lasts longest.

Color plans across a season

Eight colors (Pink, White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Purple and Blue) cover most team palettes and theme nights. Directors usually order:

  • A base set in the team color for regular game nights.
  • A second set for theme nights, such as pink, green or orange, or white for a lights-out number.
  • A split by section, so formations change shape when the rows cross.

Teams building a wardrobe from scratch can plan the whole season at once. The San Antonio Spurs, for example, said the Silver Dancers would return for the 2026–27 season after being discontinued in 2018 (source: KSAT). Our guide to NBA theme nights for dance team orders maps colors to common nights.

Add a jacket or harness for the feature group

Bandanas carry the line. A feature group of four to eight dancers carries the moment:

  • LED fringe sequin jacket: LED fringe front and back on genuine sequin fabric, one solid color or color-changing modes by wireless remote, with brightness control. One size (Small to Large). Made for the intro and the opening number.
  • Full LED body harness: color-changing LEDs from the choker down, over a catsuit, bodysuit or unitard. Handmade for your team.

A common plan: bandanas on all 20 dancers, jackets on the six who open the number and harnesses for the halftime feature. See halftime dance costumes with LED harnesses, light-up bandanas for dance teams and the full range of light-up dance team outfits for team orders.
