What can we build for a lit dance number?
A dance number with light in the costumes lives on the match: every dancer the same color and the same look in the wide shot. Neon Cowboys designs and builds light-up costumes for whole ensembles, and we sell them to the production. Custom work is quoted.

Ensembles we have outfitted
Multiples are our daily work. For Missy Elliott we made her hat plus 20 matching hats for her dancers. We’ve outfitted Beyoncé’s dancers on tour, and Kacey Musgraves wore us on tour. We built merchandise and an activation for Stagecoach with AEG and Live Nation, and showed collections at New York and Los Angeles Fashion Week.
Sizing a cast is part of the job. Our LED fringe sequin dress runs XS to 4X in stretch fabric, and our LED harness adjusts for chests from 34 to 44 inches, so one look fits dancers of every build. Custom pieces are built to each dancer’s measurements.
How big productions plan lit multiples
Large productions treat light-up costumes as a system. For Tron: Ares (2025), Wētā Workshop built 62 fully functioning light suits, plus helmets and costume versions of the discs and batons, working with costume designers Christine Bieselin Clark and Alix Friedberg. The lights ran on a wireless system so brightness could be fine-tuned on set, and a quick-release battery hatch let the team swap batteries in minutes, which mattered on days when more than 20 suits were active and on standby (source: Wētā Workshop).
Lit dance works on television too. iLuminate, a dance company founded by software engineer Miral Kotb, took third place on the sixth season of America’s Got Talent, performing in the dark in light-up suits (source: Wikipedia: iLuminate).
Your number may be 6 dancers or 60. The plan is the same: count versions, plan charging, and agree who runs the light.

For a stage musical, plan doubles for swings and understudies. For a film, plan doubles for long days and reshoots, so every take matches.
How does the light change during the number?
Our wardrobe changes color by remote, and our LED harness runs strobe, fade and color-change modes, plus a sound-reactive mode. For custom pieces, we set programmable patterns for the number.
For a pom line, one remote changes every pair at once, reaching about 65 to 80 feet with a clear line of sight, so a choreographer or stage manager can cue the whole formation from the side. Rehearse the cue with the full cast before the shoot day.

Dancers sweat, turn and hit the floor. The pieces we sell for ensembles are built for that:
- LED harnesses on adjustable vegan leather straps, worn over a bodysuit or a top; water resistant, 4+ hours per charge, and the LEDs stay cool.
- LED fringe sequin dress: a snap bodysuit with one layer of LED fringe that swings on every turn.
- LED fringe sequin jacket: fringe front and back, a solid color or modes by remote, adjustable brightness.
- Out Past Midnight boots: lit with EL wire, one color per pair, on 2 AA batteries per boot.
