Clinic fees are the first cost of a college spirit year, and programs post them. These are fees we read on each program’s own page, plus one fall clinic we saw this season:

Clinic Who it’s for Fee
Utah State Spirit Squad Stunt & Dance Clinic, Nov. 14, 2026 Ages 14 and up; walk-ins welcome $35
One Division I program’s fall clinic, this season High school juniors and seniors and current college students; online registration only, with a deadline and no walk-ups $75 a session, or $100 for both (a coed stunt clinic and a college prep and recruitment clinic)
UConn College Prep/Recruitment Clinic (cheer), April 19, 2026 High school juniors and seniors, college students and transfers $100
Texas Tech Pom Squad Clinics, Oct. 18 and Nov. 1, 2026 Grades 9–12 and above $110
Missouri State Sugar Bears One Day Summer Intensive, July 22, 2026 Grades 8–12 and college dancers $130

Sources: Utah State Spirit Squad, UConn Spirit, Texas Tech Pom Squad, Missouri State Sugar Bears. Most families pay for two or three clinics before a tryout. Plan the year around the one purchase that lasts past all of them: a practice pair of poms.

Dance team tryouts: the fee, and what the clinic gets you

The tryout itself usually carries its own fee. Southern Utah University’s dance team charged a $75 audition fee for its 2026–27 auditions, with an audition clinic the evening before (source: Southern Utah University Athletics). Colorado Mesa University’s dance team ran two tryout clinics in April 2026 and called them recommended but not mandatory; each taught different tryout material, and candidates who skipped them learned it all by video (source: Colorado Mesa University Dance Team 2026–27 packet).

Clinics can also pay off directly. At UConn, select seniors, college students and transfers at the recruitment clinic may earn a “Fast Pass” to the second round of tryouts (source: UConn Spirit). Texas Tech highly encourages pom recruits in the classes of 2027, 2028 and 2029 to attend its fall clinics, where awards may include class standout recognition and summer intensive scholarships (source: Texas Tech Pom Squad).

What does the first season cost once you make the team?

Program What new members pay What the program covers
Colorado Mesa University Dance Team, 2026–27 $750 in team fees for the spirit pack (performance top, practice wear, warmups, team shirts, travel bags, team shoes and pom-poms), billed to the student account, plus their own tan jazz shoes and tights The other performance uniforms, which stay university property
Southern Utah University Dance Team, 2026–27 Choreography fees and competition-related expenses Uniforms, warm-ups, shoes and practice gear

The spread is wide, so ask before you accept a spot. Colorado Mesa also states that no scholarships are available at this time (sources: Colorado Mesa University Dance Team 2026–27 packet, Southern Utah University Athletics). Note what sits inside that $750: pom-poms. Poms are a real line in a dance team’s budget, at the program and in the family’s.

Where your clinic fee goes on the program’s side

From the program’s side, clinic fees are often how the team pays for next season’s uniforms and poms. Ponte Vedra High School’s Splash Dance Team ran its $50 kindergarten-through-eighth-grade clinic as a fundraiser that ended in a halftime performance (source: The Ponte Vedra Recorder), and a Benilde-St. Margaret’s School student news story reported that its dance team’s $40 clinic raises money for the team’s costumes, accessories and other performance essentials (source: The Knight Errant). College programs vary, but the logic holds: a full clinic helps fund the look the team wears on game night. If you sit on a booster board, see dance and cheer team fundraising ideas; our team rate for light-up poms is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

The one purchase that lasts past tryouts

Cheer and dance costs: seven cheerleaders in green with green light-up bows and LED pom poms on a dark night track

Clinic fees are spent the day you pay them. A practice pair of poms keeps working: for drilling motions at home, for a practice video, and for showcases years later.

  • Full metallic streamers that work as a regular pom in daylight.
  • 7 oz per pom, rechargeable, 3 to 4 hours per charge (white and rainbow drain faster).
  • LEDs built into the pom itself, not one light in the handle, so a night video shows every motion as light.

At the clinic and the tryout, wear and carry what the program posts and learn its material; the practice pair is for the hours in between. If your new team’s look includes bows, our light-up cheer bows are white bows with built-in LEDs, and a button on each bow changes the color; see light-up cheer bows for teams.

  • Is there a video option? Colorado Mesa takes video submissions, cleared ahead of time with the coach, from candidates who can’t audition in person.
  • What are the academic rules? Southern Utah and Colorado Mesa ask for full-time enrollment and at least a 2.5 GPA.
