Pro theme nights work when everything on the night matches the theme: the merchandise, the lighting and the performers. The colour changes from night to night (pink for breast-cancer awareness, lavender for Hockey Fights Cancer, team colours for everything else), so a dance team that rebuys equipment for each theme spends all season catching up. A remote colour-changing set matches every theme on the schedule with one purchase. Our team rate on light-up pom poms is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

Which theme nights are on a pro schedule?

Theme nights are a fixed part of pro game presentation. Some are league-wide and some are each club’s own. Hockey Fights Cancer is the clearest example of a league-wide night: each of the NHL’s 32 teams designates at least one home game as a Hockey Fights Cancer awareness game, with 50/50 raffle proceeds, promotions and donated tickets (source: Hockey Fights Cancer).

The 2026–27 schedules are already published. The Sabres’ Hockey Fights Cancer night is November 6, with a scarf giveaway for every fan (source: Buffalo Sabres); the Blue Jackets’ is November 5 with a T-shirt giveaway (source: ABC6 on the Blue Jackets); the Ducks’ is November 15 (source: Anaheim Ducks). Trackers such as PromoNight follow giveaways and theme nights across 169 teams in six leagues.

What colour does each theme night call for?

The merchandise sets the colour, so the performers should match it:

Theme night Colour in the real merchandise What the dance team sets on the remote
Breast-cancer awareness (e.g. the Blues’ Pink at the Rink) Pink: an exclusive pink trucker hat with the theme ticket Pink
Hockey Fights Cancer Lavender: a lavender fleece (Blues) and lavender socks (Kings) with theme tickets Lavender or purple
Holiday games Club’s choice Red, green or white
Heritage and community nights Club’s choice The night’s colours
Every other game Team colours Team colours

Why does one remote colour-changing set beat a set per theme?

A dance team that matches theme nights with standard metallic poms needs a pink set, a lavender set, a holiday set and the team-colour set, and then has to store, transport and replace all of them. A light-up set changes colour by remote, so the same poms are team colours on Tuesday and lavender on Hockey Fights Cancer night. The colour switches for the whole line at once instead of relying on every dancer to pick up the right pair.

That also means the theme can extend into the routine itself: start in team colours and switch to the theme colour on a count, at the moment the arena lighting changes.

How do you stage a theme-night routine?

  1. Match the merchandise. If every fan is holding a lavender item, the team should glow lavender.
  2. Plan the colour change. Pick the count where the team switches from team colours to the theme colour.
  3. Coordinate with the production team so the arena lighting and video board change on the same beat.
  4. Use the stoppage you know you get. A time-out or intermission routine is the moment most fans will film.
  5. Repeat it at community appearances tied to the same cause, so the look carries beyond the arena.

What will a theme-night set cost?

Our team rate is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs. Because one set covers every theme, the cost is spread across the whole schedule rather than one night.

Team Pairs (with 2 spares) Cost at the team rate
Ice crew or small squad of 8 10 $1,200
Dance team of 18 20 $2,400
Dance team of 24 26 $3,120
Dance team and ice crew, 30 together 32 $3,840

Shipping is quoted with the order.

Which theme nights get the most out of light-up poms?

  • Hockey Fights Cancer and other cause nights, where the colour is the message.
  • Glow and neon nights, where the arena lights go down on purpose.
  • Holiday games, with a colour change on the last count.
  • Opening night and playoff games, the nights that are filmed and shared the most.

Who pays for the team's set?

The order usually comes from one of three budgets:

  • The dance team’s own equipment budget, when the set replaces poms the team would buy anyway.
  • Game presentation, when the set is bought for the show: introductions, halftime and theme nights.
  • A presenting sponsor. Theme nights often carry one; the Blue Jackets’ 2026–27 Hockey Fights Cancer night is presented by OhioHealth (source: "+SRC_CBJ+") and the Ducks’ by UCI Health (source: "+SRC_DUCKS+"). A sponsor that wants its colour on the floor can fund a set that glows that colour on its night and team colours the rest of the season.

How do you order a theme-night set?

Email or DM us with the number of performers, the team colours, the theme colours you need on the remote and the date of your first game. We make the light-up pom poms ourselves and will tell you plainly what fits your timeline. See team orders for how a squad order works.
