For krewe captains and costume committees dressing 20 to 100 paraders for a night parade: our LED pom poms change the whole group’s color together by remote, so your line reads from the curb and on every phone. Team pricing is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

What should a krewe captain order for a night parade?

Mardi Gras dance krewe marching a night parade route with glowing gold LED light-up pom poms under the oak trees

A dance krewe or marching group walks the dark gap between two floats. The floats bring their own light: Endymion upgrades its floats every year with the latest LED and fiber optic lighting (source: Endymion floats). The group between them has to carry its own, or it drops out of every phone video shot from the curb.

Most groups start with LED pom poms in both hands, one color for the whole line, changed together by one remote. The LEDs are built into the pom itself, not one light in the handle, under full metallic streamers in purple, green, gold and seven other colors. The Purdue Golduster Dance Team, the dance line of the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, ordered 24 pairs in September 2026.

How do you join a Mardi Gras krewe or dance group?

Each group sets its own rules, and these three dance groups recruit over the summer:

  • Tryouts: the 610 Stompers, a 100-man dance group founded in 2009, hold tryouts in late summer (sources: 610 Stompers, 610 Stompers: join).
  • No auditions: the Sassyracs, who marched in the 2024 Muses parade, take adult dancers without tryouts; recruitment runs through the summer, and 2026–2027 is closed (source: Sassyracs: join).
  • Dues and a uniform: the Disco Amigos take anyone 21 or older with no try-outs; dues are $85 for the Boogie Krewe or $275 for performers, who also buy the club’s uniform (source: Disco Amigos: join).
  • Riding krewes: Krewe of Freret membership starts at $695 and includes your riding spot (source: Krewe of Freret FAQ).

By fall most 2027 lines are set, so the open question is the costume. Or volunteer: the Sassyracs always take new Shakers for parade day.

Flambeaux and the first lit night parades

Flambeaux, French for “flaming torches,” have lit nighttime Mardi Gras parades since the mid-19th century, a custom set by Comus, the original krewe, when the streets lacked lighting; the first carriers were enslaved people and free men of color (source: History.com). Carriers still dance and twirl down the route for tips, though many parades now use modern lighting (source: The National WWII Museum). A group on foot carries its own light now: glowing poms in both hands light the street between the floats.

Mobile Mardi Gras after dark

Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama, dates to 1703 and is the oldest official Carnival celebration in the United States. Its oldest continuously parading society, the Order of Myths, was founded in 1867, and floats in its night parades are wired for lighting with a generator towed behind (source: Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama).

Much of Mobile parades after dark: on the 2026 downtown schedule, more than 20 parades started at 6 p.m. or later, ending with the Order of Myths on Fat Tuesday (source: Mobile Mardi Gras 2026 parade schedule). The City of Mobile tells viewers to pick a well-lit spot for night parades (source: City of Mobile safety tips), and a marching unit walks the same dark gaps between floats. Send us your date once the 2027 schedule is posted.

Mardi Gras krewe costumes that light up

Dance krewe in silver LED fringe sequin bodysuits glowing green, marching between the barricades at a Mardi Gras night parade

For a krewe that wants the costume itself lit, the LED fringe sequin dress is a sequin bodysuit with a bikini-cut bottom and snaps, and one layer of LED fringe from a V seam at the hips. The fringe changes color by remote and swings with every step. Silver or black sequins, sizes XS to 4X, two-way stretch: one style fits the whole line. Pair it with matching poms, or let the fringe carry a group that dances empty-handed. See ordering a fringe sequin bodysuit for a whole line.

A water-resistant layer for cold or wet parade nights

The 2027 parades run from late January into February, and a night route can turn cold or wet. The LED fringe sequin jacket is water resistant, and its fringe changes color by remote. It is one size, fitting most US women’s Small to Large: right for the captain or the front row, while a line of mixed sizes is better in the XS to 4X bodysuit.

LED harnesses for adult krewes

Adult krewes after a bolder look can light the body instead of the costume. The full LED body harness runs color-changing LEDs from the choker down; the LED halter harness traces a triangle-cut halter in light. Both have a sound-reactive mode, so the light moves with the band. Wear either over a plain bodysuit in the group’s color.

Ordering a matching set for 20 to 100 paraders

Marching dance group with glowing purple LED pom poms in a French Quarter Mardi Gras night parade as the crowd films

Count one pair per marcher plus spares: two for 20 marchers, then about one more for every 10. At our team rate of $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs:

Group Pairs Cost at the team rate
Dance krewe of 20 22 $2,640
Marching group of 40 44 $5,280
Krewe of 60 66 $7,920
Krewe of 100 110 $13,200
  • Color: choose the streamer color (purple, green and gold are all on the list) and set the LEDs by remote; one remote changes the whole group together. Ask about split sets with a different color in each hand.
  • Sizes: collect every marcher’s bodysuit size on one sheet, and add a spare in the most common size.
  • Charging: 3 to 4 hours per charge, less in white or rainbow mode. Charge every pair right before the parade, keep them off until step-off, and run one team color, not white or rainbow, on a long night route.
  • Weight: 7 oz per pom, on a rechargeable pack.
