Light-Up LED Pom Poms
Metallic streamers with LEDs built into the pom, a rechargeable pack, and one remote that changes the whole team’s color at once.
$145 USD per pair
A dance team or cheer squad in a lighted Christmas parade is a walking unit, and many lighted parades expect walking units to light up: Chandler’s Parade of Lights asks for at least 100 lights per walking participant, and Kilmarnock’s says all units must incorporate lighting. Plan four things together: a formation the curb can read, one colour plan on one remote, batteries charged indoors, and layers for a long, cold line-up. Our team rate on light-up poms is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.
What do lighted parades ask of dance teams and cheer squads?

| Parade | Rule for walking units |
|---|---|
| Chandler, Arizona Parade of Lights, December 5, 2026 | At least 100 lights per participant; up to 50 walkers, or 25 walking with a float; batteries and packs concealed within the costume |
| Kilmarnock, Virginia Lighted Christmas Parade, December 11, 2026 | All units must incorporate lighting; a Showmanship Award for the best band, dance or marching group |
| Lufkin, Texas Lighted Christmas Parade, December 5, 2026 | Every entry needs enough outside lighting to be visible; nothing thrown or handed out |
| Douglas, Georgia Festival of Lights Parade, 2024 | Bands, marching units and drill teams were excluded from the lighting rule |

Which formation reads best from the curb?
Parades keep moving. Kilmarnock’s entries must keep moving unless officials direct otherwise (source: Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade entry form), and Mission Viejo’s guidelines ask each unit to stay 25 to 30 feet, about three car lengths, behind the one ahead (source: City of Mission Viejo). So build a travelling routine, not a stage routine.
| Formation | Best for | Light tip |
|---|---|---|
| Block, four or five across | Dance teams of 12 to 25 | The front row sets the colour; every row matches |
| Two files along the lane edges | Cheer squads working both curbs | Poms face the curb on each side |
| Wedge behind a lit banner | Small squads of 8 to 12 | Banner lit in the same colour as the poms |
| Block that opens into a line | Units allowed a short stop at the judges | The colour change on the open |
Rehearse the travelling eight-count outdoors at walking pace, and agree with the organiser whether you may stop at the judges’ stand.
How do you plan the colour?
- Pick a base colour: school colours, or red, green or white for the night.
- Pick one change, on one music cue, at the judges or the busiest block. Chandler’s judges reward lights synced to music or choreography (source: City of Chandler Parade of Lights).
- Use split sets for a candy-cane look: the raised pom red, the low pom white.
- Give one person the remote, usually the coach or a captain, so the whole unit switches together.
- Match the walkers: adult banner carriers and chaperones in face stickers of the same colour.
Our stickers run on a CR2032 coin battery. Hand them to adults and older students, keep spares and used batteries away from young children, and follow the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s coin-battery guidance (source: U.S. CPSC). They are made for fans, guests and performers off the competition floor, not for athletes in a USASF cheer routine.
How do you keep the poms charged in the cold?
Our poms run on rechargeable lithium-ion packs. Battery University notes that consumer lithium-ion batteries cannot be charged below 0°C (32°F), and that cold noticeably affects discharge performance (source: Battery University). For a December parade:
- Charge indoors, at room temperature, the night before or the afternoon of the parade. Never on a cold bus or in a trailer.
- Keep the poms warm until step-off, in a bag inside the bus or a car.
- Plan lights-on time. Kilmarnock’s line-up runs 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., judging 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the parade starts at 7:00 p.m. (source: Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade entry form). Lights on for judging, off while you wait, on again at step-off.
- Switch face stickers on at step-off; they run about four hours or more on their coin battery.
- Carry two spare pairs with an adult on the route.
At 7 oz, with light packs, the poms stay comfortable over a full route, unlike DIY builds on AAA packs; see DIY light-up pom poms.
What should the squad wear on a cold December route?
The National Weather Service’s cold-weather advice is to dress in layers, wear a warm hat and change into dry clothing straight away if you get wet; it also says mittens are better than gloves (source: National Weather Service). For a performing unit:
- Base layers under the uniform, in the uniform colour or skin tone.
- Jackets and mittens on in line-up, collected by parents at step-off and waiting at the finish.
- Hats or ear warmers in the team colour, if the director allows.
- A rain plan: Kilmarnock’s parade runs rain or shine (source: Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade entry form). Bring a dry bag for the poms and spares.
For a dance line in LED fringe bodysuits, agree on tights and a fitted base layer the whole line wears.

How far will the unit march?
Ask the organiser for the route length and how long the parade takes. Chandler’s route is three-quarters of a mile, north along Arizona Avenue from Frye Road to Erie Street (source: City of Chandler Parade of Lights). The march is often the easy part; the wait in line-up and judging is the long one. Plan for:
- Water and a bathroom stop before line-up.
- A travelling routine the unit can repeat for the whole route without tiring.
- An adult at the front and the back of the unit, watching the gap to the entry ahead.
- A pickup point at the finish, with jackets and a warm bus.
How many poms does the unit need?
At our team rate of $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs:
| Group | Pairs | Cost at the team rate |
|---|---|---|
| Dance team of 10 | 12 | $1,440 |
| Cheer squad of 16 | 18 | $2,160 |
| Dance team and cheer squad, 26 together | 28 | $3,360 |
Pair counts include two spares. The same set runs in school colours for winter games.

Frequently asked questions
Do dance teams need lights in a lighted Christmas parade?
Often, yes. Kilmarnock’s parade says all units must incorporate lighting, and Chandler’s asks for at least 100 lights per walking participant. Rules vary, so read your parade’s own.
Can you charge light-up poms in the cold?
Not below freezing. Consumer lithium-ion batteries cannot be charged below 0°C (32°F), so charge indoors at room temperature and keep the poms warm until step-off.
What formation works best for a dance team in a parade?
A block four or five across for larger teams, or two files along the lane edges for cheer squads, with one colour change on a music cue.
What should cheerleaders wear in a cold Christmas parade?
Base layers under the uniform, jackets and mittens until step-off, a warm hat if allowed, and dry clothes ready if it rains.
How long is a Christmas parade route?
It varies. Chandler’s Parade of Lights route is three-quarters of a mile; the wait in line-up and judging is often longer than the march.
How much do light-up poms cost for a dance team?
Our team rate is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs. A dance team of 10 with two spares is 12 pairs, or $1,440 at that rate.
