For band and dance line directors: the Purdue Golduster Dance Team ordered 24 pairs of our light-up pom poms in September 2026 and performed with them at a night home football game, the whole line switching through green, blue and purple from one remote. Your program can plan the same at $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.

What did the Purdue Goldusters order?

In September 2026 the Purdue Golduster Dance Team placed a team order for 24 pairs of our light-up pom poms with white metallic streamers, then took them onto the field with the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band at a night home football game. The clip below is real footage of the Goldusters with their poms at that game.

Order detail What the Goldusters got
The team The Purdue Golduster Dance Team, the dance team of the “All-American” Marching Band
The order 24 pairs on one team order, September 2026
Streamers White metallic, 6 inches on each side of a baton handle
Light Over 100 full-colour LEDs per pom, built into the pom itself, not a single light in the handle
Control One handheld remote runs every pair, so the whole line changes together
Where they performed On the field with the band at a night home football game

White streamers make a flexible base for a band line. Under stadium lights they read as a clean white metallic pom, and when the LEDs are on they take the colour of the light, so the line is never locked into one colour for the season.

Who are the Purdue Goldusters?

The Golduster Dance Team was founded in 1980 and is the dance team of the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, one of the band’s auxiliary units. In the fall the team practises five days a week with the band. The Goldusters perform at all home football games and at select other sporting events, including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer and wrestling, plus university and community events. On a home football game day that includes “Thrill on the Hill,” dancing on the sidelines during the game and performing with the band in the halftime show. Their styles run from pom to hip-hop and jazz, danced to live music from the band and to popular songs (source: Purdue Bands: Golduster Dance Team).

For a buyer, that schedule is the point. A band dance team performs at every home game, rehearses with the band all fall and has to look matched next to a full marching band, so its equipment has to work for a whole season, not one feature.

The Purdue Golduster Dance Team is a customer of ours. Purdue University, its bands and the Goldusters do not sponsor or endorse Neon Cowboys.

How did the Goldusters use light-up poms with the band at a night game?

Two moments in our footage show what a lit dance line adds to a band performance.

  • White inside the band’s formation. In the aerial view, the Goldusters stand inside the marching band’s formation with every pom set to white. In the photo below, the boxed section is the dance team: lines of white light inside the band’s shape.
  • Colour changes on the field. On the field, the same poms switch through green, blue and purple. One remote changes every pair, so the line moves from one colour to the next together instead of dancer by dancer.

Any other lights in the band’s formation are the band’s own equipment, not Neon Cowboys products. The glow from the Goldusters’ poms is ours.

What does the Purdue game show other band programs?

What the footage shows What it means for your program
Every pom on one colour inside the band’s formation A dance line can hold one colour as part of a drill picture, so it reads as part of the formation, not a separate unit
The whole line changing colour together on the field One remote handles the change; no dancer reaches for a switch in the middle of a routine
A lit line that stands out from high above the field A high camera, a drone or a broadcast wide shot gets one clear shape to follow
Colour at night, in a full stadium Fans in the upper rows see the dance team as light, not as a dark row in front of the band
White streamers taking on green, blue and purple One set covers school colours, white and theme-night colours

None of that needs a special show. It needs a matched set, a colour written next to each formation and one person who owns the remote. For how other universities run their band dance lines, see college band dance lines.

How would another band program plan the same?

When What to lock in
Once the roster is set Count the dancers who carry poms, add two spare pairs and request a quote with your first home game date
Show design Write the dance line’s colour next to each formation in the drill, the way the band marks a music hit
Band camp Rehearse with the poms and the remote cue at full tempo on the field, after dark if you can
Remote position One person holds the remote within about 65 to 80 feet of the line, with a clear line of sight: the near sideline or on the field, not the press box
Every game day Charge every pair; a charge lasts about 2 to 4 hours depending on colour and mode, so switch on for the moments that count
Basketball and other sports Use the same set at other events and theme nights, with the colour changed by remote

Send us your first home game date and we will tell you plainly what fits. If your dance line sits beside a drill team or other band units, see band dance lines and drill teams; for a pom unit that performs football, basketball and baseball, see pom line poms for athletic bands.

How many pairs should a band dance team order, and what does it cost?

Order one pair per dancer who carries poms, plus spares for an alternate, a new member or a pom on the charger. At our team rate of $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs:

Group Pairs Cost at the team rate
Dance line of 12 14 $1,680
Dance line of 16 18 $2,160
Dance line of 20 22 $2,640
Dance team of 30 32 $3,840

Pair counts include two spares. Order the whole line together so every pair matches, and keep the spares with the dance team director. Each pom is about 7 oz and runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion pack that charges by USB-C, so there are no disposable batteries to budget for. The order steps are in team orders.

Who signs off on a band dance team order?

Line Who usually pays Notes
Light-up poms for the line Band budget, or the dance team’s own fundraising One set covers football, other sports and theme nights
Spare pairs The same order Two pairs, held by the dance team director
Chargers and travel Band or team travel budget Chargers and spares packed for away trips
  • Director of bands or athletic bands: owns the budget and the show, and signs the purchase order.
  • Dance team director or coach: the choreography, the colour plan and the pair count.
  • Band office or business manager: the quote, the purchase order and vendor paperwork.
  • Drill writer or show designer: where each colour change lands in the drill.
  • A manager or captain on the field: holds the remote with the whole line in sight.

How do you request a quote for a band dance team?

Email or DM us with the number of dancers who carry poms, your streamer colour, the light colours you plan to use, your first home game date and any travel dates. We make our light-up products ourselves and will tell you plainly what fits your date. See team orders for how a group order works.

Frequently asked questions

Did the Purdue Goldusters use Neon Cowboys pom poms?

Yes. The Purdue Golduster Dance Team ordered 24 pairs of our light-up pom poms in September 2026 and performed with them on the field at a night home football game with the “All-American” Marching Band.

What colour were the Goldusters’ poms?

White metallic streamers. In our footage the poms glow white inside the band’s formation and switch through green, blue and purple on the field.

Can a whole dance line change colour at once?

Yes. One remote runs every pair together, within about 65 to 80 feet with a clear line of sight to the line.

Do light-up poms show from above the field?

Yes. Our aerial footage of the Purdue game shows the dance team as lines of white light inside the band’s formation, which gives a high camera or a wide shot one clear shape to follow.

How should a band program plan light-up poms into a show?

Write the dance line’s colour next to each formation in the drill, rehearse the remote cue at band camp, and give the remote to one person on the field.

How much do light-up poms cost for a band dance team?

Our team rate is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs. A dance line of 20 with two spares is 22 pairs, or $2,640 at that rate.
