What should a step team order for a light-up show?
Start from the uniform your line already wears. Steppers typically perform in matching outfits in their organization’s colors (source: iReishPrint), and at West Virginia State University’s homecoming step show, members wore hats, boots, pins and sweatshirts in their organization’s colors (source: Black By God). The light-up piece goes in that same color:

How do you size a full step line?
Collect sizes for every stepper before you send the order.
- LED fringe sequin bodysuit: sizes XS to 4X in stretch fabric, with adjustable straps and snap closures at the bottom for secure wear. Send each stepper’s size.
- LED harness: one adjustable size for a 34 to 44 in chest, over a tee, mesh top or jacket. Send chest measurements taken over the tee they will wear.
- Light-up bandana: one size, 22 x 22 in.
- LED halter harness: handmade for your team; send sizes and your show date and we will tell you plainly what fits.
Order one or two spares in the most common size, so a late addition to the line still matches.

At HBCUs, homecoming is the most prominent setting for step shows, and the step show is often the most anticipated event, filling auditoriums that hold thousands and drawing alumni back for it. Show-day setup and care
- Charge every bodysuit and harness pack the night before. Each runs about 4+ hours per charge.
- Fresh coin cells in every bandana, with spares in the bag. Coin cells should be handled by adults, so the bandana suits college, Greek and adult lines, not young kids.
- Label every piece with the stepper’s name and size.
- Set every color before the line walks on and check it under the stage lights.
- Store the bodysuits flat or hung so the fringe stays straight.
Run one full rehearsal in the uniforms under show lighting. It shows you the color changes the way the crowd will see them.
