Light-Up LED Pom Poms
Metallic streamers with LEDs built into the pom, a rechargeable pack, and one remote that changes the whole team’s color at once.
$145 USD per pair
For dance team coaches filming recruitment videos: our LED pom poms change color together by remote, so a lights-down color change at a night game becomes the clip that sells your program. They work as full metallic poms in daylight too. Team pricing is $120 a pair on 10+ pairs.
What should a dance team recruitment video show?

The game-day job. College dance teams tell prospects what they want, and it is not only technique: the Carolina Dance Team says it looks for dancers who are an asset in both game-day performances and on the competition floor (source: Carolina Dance Team recruitment).
Your video should show both, and the game-day half is where most programs lose the prospect. A sideline routine filmed in daylight looks like every other team. Film it when the lights go down. Our LED pom poms have the LEDs built into the pom itself, and one remote switches the whole line’s color on the same count. That is the moment a junior watches twice.
Prospects send you a standard video, so send one back
Many college dance teams now take the same recruiting video. Texas Tech’s pom squad participates in the Common College Dance Team Recruitment Video process (source: Texas Tech Pom Squad). Carolina’s version puts everything in one video: an introduction of 30 seconds to 3 minutes, skills, three 45-second combinations in jazz, pom and hip hop, and an optional solo of up to 3 minutes (source: Carolina Dance Team recruitment). UVU asks for the NDCA format plus a solo, filmed horizontally within the last two months (source: UVU Dance tryouts).
Every prospect films the same format for every school. What separates programs is what they post back: your team, your game nights and your coaches, in clips a junior can picture themselves in.
Post before the video deadlines
Prospects choose which schools get their video in the months before the deadlines, so your best clips need to be up first.
| Program | Video deadline | What else |
|---|---|---|
| Texas Tech Pom Squad | Sept. 1, 2026 for the Class of 2027; Sept. 1, 2027 for the Class of 2028 | Offers from Nov. 1, 2026 to the end of January 2027 |
| Carolina Dance Team | Sept. 1, 2026, the early universal date | Status emails by Nov. 1 |
| UVU Dance | By January 1 | One in-person clinic, camp or intensive before March 2027; tryouts April 27–28, 2027 |
Sources: Texas Tech Pom Squad, Carolina Dance Team recruitment, UVU Dance tryouts. Two dates keep coming up: September 1 and January 1. Post your strongest game-night clips over the summer and early fall, then again in December.
Which moments should you film?

Build a shot list once and film it all season:
| Moment | Where | How to film it |
|---|---|---|
| The lights-down color change | Night game timeout or light show | Wide, full line and crowd in frame, one switch on the count |
| The full line in team colors | Sideline or field in daylight | Front-on at hip height; the metallic streamers read as regular poms |
| The lights-out intro | Basketball arena before tip-off | From the baseline, poms the brightest thing in frame |
| Practice technique | Your gym, every week | Tight on motions and levels, one drill per clip |
| The clinic finale | Your clinic, lights down, prospects watching | From behind the prospects, so viewers see what they saw |
The finale shot does double duty: it is your recruitment clip and next season’s clinic announcement. For running the clinic itself, see our guide to college dance team clinics.
A weekly series keeps prospects coming back
One clip gets a view; a series gets followed. One college dance team we follow runs a recurring social series every Tuesday, and a fixed weekly slot like that gives prospects a reason to check your feed between game nights. Technique drills fit the slot well; see Technique Tuesday pom drills for drills that read on camera.
Keep the poms in the series. Ours are 7 oz per pom, and the same pair works at practice and on game night, so a prospect watching a Tuesday drill sees the exact poms the team carries under the lights.
Get the color change on camera
- Lock exposure on the poms. Expose for the lit line, not the dark crowd, so the color holds.
- Count it in. One remote changes every pair together. Give it to one coach, on a set count.
- Film both ways. One horizontal take for your website and YouTube, one vertical for social.
- Charge the night before. Each pom runs 3 to 4 hours per charge; white and rainbow drain faster.
- Keep it short. Lead with the switch. The color change in the first seconds is the hook.
The LEDs sit in the pom itself, not one light in the handle, so the whole pom lights and the line reads as one shape on a small screen.

Frequently asked questions
What should a dance team recruitment video include?
Your game-day job: the full line in team colors, the lights-down color change at a night game, practice technique and your clinic finale. Film the game-night clips wide.
What is the common college dance team recruitment video?
A shared format many college teams take from prospects. Carolina’s version has an introduction, skills, three 45-second combinations in jazz, pom and hip hop, and an optional solo.
When do prospects send recruiting videos?
Two dates come up most: September 1, the early universal date, and January 1. Post your best clips before both.
How do LED pom poms look on video?
The LEDs are built into the pom, so the whole pom lights. One remote changes every pair together, so the line switches color on one count.
How long do the poms run per charge?
3 to 4 hours per charge. White and rainbow drain faster, so charge the night before you film.
What do LED pom poms cost for a dance team?
$120 a pair on 10 or more pairs, so an 18-member team is $2,160.
