LED Rib Cage Harness
A rib cage harness in black patent straps and silver O-rings, with color-changing LEDs down every rib.
$425 USD
For prop masters and costume designers on a horror shoot: we design and build light-up horror props, glowing rib-cage wardrobe, lit crowns and set pieces, with LEDs built in, color by remote and packs hidden in the piece. Our pieces were filmed for Apple’s iPhone 13 night-mode campaign. Every build is quoted: send your script pages and shoot date.
What light-up horror props and wardrobe can we build?

Horror is shot in the dark, so anything that glows becomes the scare. For prop masters, costume designers and art departments, we design and build:
- Glowing skeleton wardrobe: our LED rib cage harness under a torn shirt or over bare skin, lighting the bones of a creature or a ghost.
- Cult and ritual pieces: lit crystal crowns and headpieces, matched for a whole circle.
- Horror props from scratch: cursed devices, talismans and masks with lit eyes.
- Light-up set pieces: a wall of lights, a doorway that glows, a nursery that wakes up at night.
- Multiples for stunt doubles, reshoots and a crowd of the possessed.
We sell what we build, and every custom piece is quoted. Send us your shoot date and we will tell you plainly what fits.
What Five Nights at Freddy’s and Stranger Things show about practical horror
Two well-known productions show why horror keeps building on set. For Five Nights at Freddy’s, director Emma Tammi committed to practical effects and turned to Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Its lead supervisor, Robert Bennett, said the shop had to make multiples of each character so another build could be ready for the next shot, with kits of six or 12 arms for one character (source: SYFY). Bennett also said a practical build helps every department: “The lighting department, the sound department…it’s just having something on set” (source: The AU Review).
Light does the same job in the set itself. Writing for the Art Directors Guild about Stranger Things, production designer Chris Trujillo describes “a working-class living room, festooned with Christmas lights” (source: Art Directors Guild).
We did not work on either production. Both make the point we build around: put the light on set, and make enough copies to get through the shoot.
Hero, stunt and background versions for horror

| Piece | Hero | Stunt | Background (BG) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glowing rib cage | Full harness, color by remote, pack hidden under the wardrobe | Fewer hard parts, pack kept clear of falls, planned with your stunt team | The same rib cage look in one solid color |
| Cult crown or headpiece | Lit crystals that frame the face in the close-up | A lighter version secured for movement | Matched copies for the whole circle |
| Cursed device or talisman | Detailed and lit, built for the insert | A soft copy for throws and grabs | A lighter copy, lit for distance |
| Mask with lit eyes | Lights placed for the close-up | A soft mask for the chase | Simpler copies for the crowd |
| Lit set piece | The piece the camera finds | Usually not needed | Extra units to fill the frame |
Tell us which scenes each piece works in and how many takes involve action. We quote every version as one build, so the BG crowd glows the same color as the hero.

Light behavior that builds a scare
- A slow fade as the creature steps out of the dark. Our programmable harness has fade, strobe and color-change modes on its remote.
- A blink in the trees. Face stickers flash, blink and twinkle, with no solid mode, which is what you want for eyes in the woods.
- A strobe in the chase, on harnesses and custom props.
- A color shift from a warm, safe color to a cold red as the scene turns.
- The only light in the shot: a lit crown or device that carries the frame on its own.
Custom hand props and set pieces are programmed to your scene. Face stickers run on one CR2032 coin battery each: hand them to adult and older-teen cast, and keep spare and used coin batteries away from young children.

Why horror teams bring us in
Horror sets are dark, and dark is where our pieces have already been tested on camera. An LED cowboy hat of ours showcased iPhone 13 low-light night photography for Apple, and Google put our Out Past Midnight boots in a Google Lens commercial. Every camera and lighting setup is different, so talk to us about your camera and lighting plan.
Neon Cowboys is a designer-led light-up fashion house founded in 2014 by Asia Hall, a computer science graduate and the daughter of couturier Kevan Hall. We build one-off pieces, like a light-up suit for Machine Gun Kelly and a custom LED hand harness for Beyoncé, and matched multiples, like Missy Elliott’s hat plus 20 matching dancer hats.
How do you keep continuity across reshoots?
- Record every setting. Write down each piece’s color and mode for every scene in your continuity notes.
- Label every copy. Hero, stunt and BG versions each get the scene and the setting they belong to.
- Charge between setups. Our harness runs about 4+ hours per charge, so plan a charging spot near set.
- Order doubles. A second hero copy keeps the shoot going if a piece is damaged in a stunt.
- Keep the remotes with one person. One operator on the remotes keeps every take the same.
