Custom work is quoted. Email info@neoncowboys.com with “Production inquiry” in the subject.
What light-up superhero pieces can we build for your production?

Superhero productions need light that belongs to the character: a core in the chest, lines along a suit, a glow in the gauntlets when the power comes on. We design and build:
- Hero suits and suit lighting: one-off wardrobe with light lines and a chest core.
- Hand props from scratch: gauntlets, helmets, visors, shields and devices.
- Team multiples: matched suits or pieces in your custom color for a squad, a villain’s crew or a crowd.
- Set pieces: lit elements for a lab, a lair or a control room.
Light comes from LEDs built into the piece, set by remote, with programmable patterns and rechargeable packs hidden in the costume. Your characters stay your own: we build to your production’s designs and never sell a studio’s character as a product. Neon Cowboys is a designer-led light-up fashion house founded in 2014 by Asia Hall, a computer science graduate and the daughter of couturier Kevan Hall.
Light-line suits and power cores
Light-line suits like the ones audiences know from Tron show how far a practical build can go. For Tron: Ares (2025), Wētā Workshop built 62 working light suits with up to five meters of LED strip in each suit’s armor, dimmable on set by a wireless controller, with a quick-release battery hatch so crews could swap batteries in minutes; on some shoot days more than 20 suits were in use (source: Wētā Workshop).
Our builds follow the same logic for your production. Light runs in lines through the suit, the pack sits where the costume hides it, and the remote sets color and pattern for each take. Our LED harnesses also have a sound-reactive mode for a power-up beat cut to music, and our programmable harness keeps its LEDs cool on the body, which matters on a long night inside a heavy suit.

Hero, stunt and BG suits
| Version | Where it works | How we build the light |
|---|---|---|
| Hero suit | Close-ups, reveals and the power-up shot | Full light lines and a chest core, remote color and patterns |
| Stunt suit | Fights, falls and wire work | A softer, flexible build with the pack padded and moved clear of the rigging |
| Background (BG) suits | Team and crowd shots at a distance | Same color and silhouette, with simpler light |
| Doubles | Continuity, stand-ins and reshoots | Matched to the hero so the cut doesn’t show |
Tell us which scenes are close-ups and which are wide, and the quote follows the camera. Your stunt coordinator signs off on every stunt suit.
Interactive light from the suit, not added in post
When a character glows, real light on set helps everyone around them. On Watchmen (2009), Billy Crudup wore a motion-capture suit covered in lights to play Dr. Manhattan (source: ComicMix). Visual effects supervisor John DesJardin explained that LEDs are low-power and give off little heat, that a suit with LEDs gave them an interactive performance where the light glows and dims as needed, and that it helped the cinematographer, the director and the other actors; the final character was finished in CG (source: Post Magazine).
Our pieces have been filmed for real campaigns: Apple used one of our LED cowboy hats to showcase iPhone 13 Night mode low-light photography, and Google put our Out Past Midnight boots in a Google Lens commercial and on six-story billboards. Talk to us about your camera and lighting plan before we build.
How do you keep a team of suits matched?
Ensembles are where productions lose time: one suit a shade off, one pack flat before the take. We build multiples to one spec in your custom color, and every piece is set to the same color by remote before each setup. We made Missy Elliott’s hat plus 20 matching dancer hats, and we’ve outfitted Beyoncé’s dancers on tour.
- Order a double of every hero suit.
- Label each pack by actor and charge between setups; our programmable harness runs 4+ hours per charge.
- Give one person the remotes for each scene, so colors change on the call.
Villains, sidekicks and the crowd

Not every character needs a full suit. A villain’s crew can wear our LED body harness over black, glowing one color from the choker down. Our Out Past Midnight boots light with EL wire in one color per pair, on 2 AA batteries per boot for 8 to 11+ hours, so an entrance reads from the floor up. LED face stickers in lightning or star shapes add lit marks for a club or crowd scene; they run on CR2032 coin batteries, so they go to adult cast.
We’ve also built one-off pieces for artists, including a custom LED hand harness for Beyoncé, a light-up suit for Machine Gun Kelly and custom light-up sunglasses for Kim Petras. A hero’s gauntlet or visor is the same kind of build.
