Light-Up LED Pom Poms
Metallic streamers with LEDs built into the pom, a rechargeable pack, and one remote that changes the whole team’s color at once.
$145 USD per pair
Plan competition-season equipment backwards from your first event. Decide which routines use poms (pom routines use them throughout; Game Day routines use them for the sideline and time-out cheers), order one matched set for the whole team plus spares, and submit any prop for a legality ruling before you compete. Then put the same set to work everywhere no ruling is needed: showcase nights, exhibition performances and winter game nights. Our team rate on light-up pom poms is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs.
When should a coach order for competition season?

Work back from the calendar. These are the published dates for the 2026–27 all-star season (source: Varsity 2026–27 season guide):
| Date | Event | What should already be ordered |
|---|---|---|
| August 19, 2026 | Registration opens for Varsity All Star Challenge, Classic, Showdown and Nationals events | Budget set for the season |
| November 14, 2026 | First NCA Classic, Rosenberg, Texas | Competition poms in hand, legality answer in writing |
| January 9–10, 2027 | Several NCA Classics | Spares for travel |
| March 12–14, 2027 | USA All Star Super Nationals, Anaheim | Showcase set planned |
| March 13–14, 2027 | UCA All Star National Championship, Orlando: bids to Worlds and The Summit | Showcase set ordered |
| Late April | The Cheerleading Worlds, Orlando (April 24–27 in 2026) | Send-off and showcase finished |
The rule of thumb: anything a team will use in a judged routine should be in hand early enough to get a written legality answer and rehearse with before the first event. When you request a quote, give us your first event date and we will tell you what is realistic.
Which routines need poms, and how many pairs should you order?
Not every division uses poms the same way, so order for the routines you actually run.
| Division | How poms are used | Pairs to order |
|---|---|---|
| Pom | Required throughout; part of the uniform in the ICU Pom category | One per dancer, plus 2–3 spares |
| Game Day | Encouraged for the situational sideline and time-out cheer | One per athlete in those sections, plus spares |
| All-star cheer | Allowed as a prop, not the focus of the routine | Only for showcase and exhibition use |

What will a team set cost?
Our team rate is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs. At that rate:
| Team size | Pairs (with 2 spares) | Cost at the team rate |
|---|---|---|
| Small squad of 12 | 14 | $1,680 |
| Pom team of 20 | 22 | $2,640 |
| Full squad of 30 | 32 | $3,840 |
| Whole-gym showcase finale of 100 | 102 | $12,240 |
Shipping is quoted with the order. For a team quote, email or DM us your team size, colours and first event date.
Are light-up poms allowed in a judged routine?
We read the current rulebooks in full. None of them mentions lights, LEDs or batteries anywhere, so nothing in them prohibits a light-up pom pon, and nothing explicitly approves one either:
| Rulebook | What it says about poms | Lights, LEDs or batteries |
|---|---|---|
| USASF Cheer 2026–27 | Flags, standard flat banners and signs, pom pons, megaphones and pieces of cloth are the only props allowed. Props may not have sharp, unyielding or pointed edges or block an athlete’s vision. | Not mentioned |
| USASF Dance 2026–27 | Wearable and handheld items are allowed in all categories. | Not mentioned |
| ICU 2026 Performance Cheer | Handheld props are not allowed, except in the Pom category, where poms are part of the uniform and compulsory throughout. | Not mentioned |

The legality official at each event makes the final call, so get it in writing before the first competition. USASF lets coaches submit routine skills through the USASF Coach App before competition, and the ICU invites questions to its rules committee at pc.rules@cheerunion.org. A written answer in hand means no surprises on the day.
Where do light-up poms pay for themselves during competition season?
Most of the times a team performs between November and April involve no judges and no prop ruling:
- Showcase nights. Many all-star gyms put on a ticketed showcase before Worlds or Summit so families can watch the routines, often as a travel fundraiser. The gym controls the lights, which makes the finale the place for a lights-down moment; see cheer showcase night ideas.
- Exhibition teams. Some gyms run show teams that perform without receiving scores.
- Game nights. School and college squads keep cheering basketball games through the winter, alongside competition season.
- Banquets and send-offs for the teams heading to nationals.
Because the colour changes by remote, one set covers the team colour at a game, a theme night and the gym colour at the showcase.
How do you make a whole team's poms match?
Pom routines are judged on technique, synchronisation and visual effect, with poms used throughout (source: USASF Dance Rules 2026–27). Team USA, represented by the University of Minnesota, won Pom gold at the 2025 ICU world championships (source: University of Minnesota Athletics), and at that level every line is identical. For a coach that means three buying decisions:
- Order the whole set together, so every pair is the same age and fullness.
- Order spares in the same order, so a replacement matches the rest.
- Set colours as a team. With remote colour change, every pom switches together instead of relying on twenty athletes to match by hand.
Why does the competition floor change what you buy?
At the Cheerleading Worlds the floor is approximately 54 feet wide by 42 feet deep, made of nine panels (source: Cheerleading Worlds 2026 guide), and at the big championships it sits on a raised stage. At the NCA All-Star National Championship the backdrop was an LED video wall on a 40-foot lighting truss (source: TPi). Whatever your team carries has to read from the judges’ tables and the far end of an arena, not just from the front row of a practice gym. Test your colours under bright stage lighting and in a dark room before you order the full set.

Frequently asked questions
When should a cheer team order poms for competition season?
Early enough to get a written answer on legality and rehearse with them before the first event. The first NCA Classic of the 2026–27 season was listed for November 14, 2026. Give us your first event date when you request a quote.
How many pom poms does a cheer team need?
One pair per athlete who uses them in the routine, plus two or three spares ordered at the same time so they match.
How much do light-up pom poms cost for a team?
Our team rate is $120 a pair on 10 or more pairs. A pom team of 20 with two spares is 22 pairs, or $2,640 at that rate.
Are pom poms allowed in cheer competition?
Yes. Pom pons are on the allowed prop list in the USASF 2026–27 cheer rules, handheld items are allowed in all USASF dance categories, and in the ICU Pom category poms are part of the uniform.
Are light-up pom poms legal in cheer competition?
Nothing in the current USASF or ICU rules prohibits them: none of the rulebooks mentions lights, LEDs or batteries. The legality official at each event decides, so get a written answer first through the USASF Coach App or the ICU rules committee. Showcases, exhibitions and game nights need no ruling.
Which competition routines use poms?
Pom routines use them throughout, and Game Day routines use them for the situational sideline and time-out cheer. All-star cheer routines are built on stunts and tumbling.
